Tips for Transitioning Between In-Person, Virtual, and Hybrid Settings

One guarantee of the past few years has been constant change. Classes and work environments have transitioned from in-person to virtual to hybrid consistently. For some, the initial transition to a virtual environment was the hardest. Alternately, others realized they enjoy a break from the pressure of being in-person and in turn, have encountered new challenges with the shift to hybrid or in-person expectations.

A way to help remain optimistic about some of the changes occurring around you is to have a plan to stay on track. Check out our tips below to help ease into any future changes.

Tips to stay on track

• Stay organized. Whether you use your phone, a virtual calendar, or physical planner, set yourself up for success by knowing how to easily access your schedule and any reminders regardless of your setting.
• Ask about updated expectations. As things change, ask your professors and/or boss if any expectations will be shifting as you transition between environments.
• Create a space for virtual and hybrid classes or work at home. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but having a set place to go can help provide a sense of security with swift transitions.
• Lean on your classmates or coworkers. If you are struggling during a transition from in-person to virtual, or vice versa, it can feel very isolating. Finding someone you can talk with may give you the opportunity to learn some new coping skills or ways to navigate the transition.
• Be ready and accept it’s a part of our lives for the foreseeable future. This doesn’t mean you have to like the changes occurring, but knowing it’s a possibility and being prepared can lessen the overwhelming feeling that can come with it.
• Rely on gratitude. Keep note of the positives that have come from each change as they occur. Then, refer back to these to try to approach the transitions with some positivity and a growth mindset.
